Emergency Learning vs. Online Learning

 

We studied for years to be educators.  We had college courses, practicum hours, student teaching, all while never preparing for this current type of teaching virtually.  We are in the future.

We cannot just move face to face teaching to an online platform.  Even though the action of our teaching may not look the same, the essential elements are the same.

 Backwards Design IS familiar.

Unpacking a unit? 1. Identify desired results 2. Determine acceptable evidence 3. Plan learning experiences and instruction.

Be careful to not fall into the trap of only planning activities and content!  We will miss major pieces of online learning.

-How are you going to support different types of learning interactions?  This focuses on both social and cognitive process, not just the transfer of information.

-Feedback is crucial in online learning.  Feedback needs to be a part of our lesson planning.  In face to face learning there is much more opportunity for informal, non planned feedback.

How will you plan for this upcoming unit or week?  Who will you collaborate with?  How will you be sure your students are engaged and interacting with the information?
